I’d like for us to find common ground. It ought to be possible. We’ve got big challenges facing our country, and we’ll find solutions better-cheaper-faster if we work together.
Would ya’ll please try to look at things from our perspective, to at least understand our viewpoint and why we think and act the way we do? Please?
When you see government oppressing someone just because they are … black, gay, female, Latino, non-citizen, or another grouping … you are outraged and demand equal protection of the law. Well, where is your demand for equal protection of the law regarding Trump? It sure looks to us as though the Deep State are abusing their power to “investigate” Russia collusion just because Trump is an outsider.
Can you seriously suggest that Obama and Trump, and then Clinton and Trump, have been investigated the same way? Both Obama and Trump made comments about an investigation while they were President. Obama’s comment triggered an exoneration letter for his friend; Trump’s comment triggered a leak to spur calls for a Special Counsel. Does that seriously look like equal protection to you?
Clinton and her team obviously lied to the FBI numerous times in connection with the e-mail server investigation (such as about whether there were any more e-mails, or whether any work-related e-mails had been deleted), but none were charged with lying. Flynn was charged with lying even though the FBI agents who interviewed him didn’t think he was lying. Does that seriously look like equal protection to you?
Trump had a campaign advisor whom the Russians had paid $45,000 for a speech; that triggered concern about the risk of the Trump team being influenced by the Russians. Clinton had a campaign advisor whom the Russians had paid $500,000 for a speech; plus a further $100 million placed at the disposal of that campaign advisor by the Russians; plus a long string of favorable actions done by Clinton for the Russians; yet that triggered no concern in the intelligence community about the risk of the Clinton team being influenced by the Russians. Does that seriously look like equal protection to you?
We will join you in holding Mr. Trump accountable, have no fear about that. Remember how we held Nixon accountable, with Howard Baker marching down Pennsylvania Avenue to deliver the ultimatum? More recently, how we’ve held Cantor, Boehner, the rest of the 2016 Presidential primary field, et. al., accountable at the ballot box? We will certainly join you in holding Mr. Trump accountable. But we’d like for you to join us, too, in demanding equal protection of the law for Mr. Trump.
