This won’t take long. The answer is “None”.
Remember the numbers on electoral votes from this blog’s 4/23 post. Trump was sitting at 273 electoral votes without any help, and had a reasonable expectation of picking up more by out-working Clinton in MN, MI, WI and IA. He wouldn’t have felt he needed any help, and certainly not enough to take such a terrible risk.
Then there’s the issue of what help the Russians would have offered, according to the government’s theory: “We will help you by arranging to publish some e-mails showing the American people that Clinton cannot be trusted.”
Hah! Trump would scoff at that with a rejoinder something like, “Hey, that doesn’t add any value. The whole U.S. already knows that Clinton cannot be trusted. Some of them will shrug it off and vote for her anyway, because they hope she’ll favor them with her policies, but the whole country already knows that Clinton cannot be trusted.”
So I see no conceivable motive for Trump to do this. He didn’t need the help, and the help allegedly offered under the government’s theory wouldn’t have added any value for him.
